The word Reiki broken down, is Rei= universal, and Ki = life energy. Other names for Life Energy come from many other sources and ancient cultures, like Prana, Chi, mana, Universal Love, Holy Spirit, The Field, and one of my favorites, The Force.
Reiki is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance flowing through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person in mind, body, and spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being. Many have reported miraculous results.
Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of healing and self-improvement. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
More recently Reiki has been used in some hospitals and clinics as an effective and safe way to improve patient care. From The International Center for Reiki Training website:
“Reiki sessions cause patients to heal faster with less pain,” says Marilyn Vega, RN, a private-duty nurse at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York. [Reiki] accelerates recovery from surgery, improves mental attitude and reduces the negative effects of medication and other medical procedures.
